Nucleation Theory

Studies of one component and multicomponent droplet formation from supersaturated vapors using density functional and phenomenological nucleation theories, and molecular dynamics simulations. Development of nucleation phenomenology.

Atmospheric Aerosol Formation

Homogeneous nucleation of sulfuric acid and water: Laboratory experiments, development of classical nucleation theory, and studies of cluster properties using molecular dynamics calculations. Development of classical nucleation theory to describe formation of multicomponent (e.g. sulfuric acid/ammonia/water) aerosols. Studies of sulfate particle formation in various atmospheric conditions using combined transport-, gas phase chemistry-, and aerosol dynamics models.
