Two of the research groups are part of the Centre of Excellence in research appointed by the Academy of Finland. Inverse Problems Group belongs to the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems (2006-2011) and Aerosol Physics Group belongs to the Research Unit on Physics, Chemistry and Biology of Atmospheric Composition and Climate Change (Centre of Excellence 2002-2007).
